”Of course, it must not have been easy for Telemachus to spend his life waiting. Waiting for the father, I mean.

Although it is true that all children somehow wait for their father to return. Maybe they don't wait for twenty years, but long afternoons, or a few weeks. Because every father sooner or later leaves, goes on a long journey. Or he just sits in a room that can't be entered, the children end up not seeing him much. And they wait. That is until the time comes when they have to grow up and go looking for their father. To reach out to some distant place, or take courage and go into that room, knock, and enter the world."

"Certo, per Telemaco non doveva essere stato facile passare la vita ad aspettare. Aspettare il padre, voglio dire. Anche se è vero che tutti i bambini in qualche modo aspettano il ritorno del proprio padre. Magari non aspettano per vent’anni, ma lunghi pomeriggi, o qualche settimana. Perché ogni padre prima o poi parte, va a fare un lungo viaggio. O semplicemente se ne sta in una stanza in cui non si può entrare, i figli finiscono per non vederlo granché. E aspettano. Questo fino a quando non arriva il momento in cui devono diventare grandi e andarlo a cercare, il padre. Per raggiungerlo in qualche luogo lontano, o farsi coraggio e andare in quella stanza, bussare, ed entrare nel mondo.” (Giovanni Nucci)
